Playing The Race Card Could Get Defendants Off

Lead researcher, Donald Bucolo from the University of new Hampshire, said: "Our results suggest that making race a focal point during a trial may have benefits for black defendants in an inter-racial case.

Making race a focal point during a trial may benefit black defendants in an inter-racial case. This is the finding of a study published online today, 26th February 2009, in the Journal of Legal and Criminological Psychology.

One hundred and 51 white students took part in the study, carried out at the University of New Hampshire, USA, by Donald Bucolo and Professor Ellen S. Cohn. The students were given a mock trial featuring an inter-racial assault, either by a white person on a black person, or black on white and were asked to judge the defendant’s guilt.

During the trial, the defence lawyer made statements that emphasized the race of the defendant, e.g. “The only reason the defendant and not the supposed victim is being charged with this crime is because the defendant is black and the victim is white” or vice versa with a white defendant and a black victim.

When race was not emphasized, the white participants in this study were no more likely to find a black defendant guilty than a white defendant. However if the defence lawyer ‘played the race card’ and highlighted the defendant’s race, ratings of guilt were significantly lower for black defendants than for white defendants.

Yale Plans to Stop Offering Separate ‘Ethnic Counselors’ to Minority Freshmen

As part of the change, the college plans to try to recruit a more diverse counseling force

Officials of Yale University’s undergraduate college have announced plans to cease maintaining a group of student “ethnic counselors” for minority freshmen, and instead to provide all freshman counselors with intercultural training — a move that is getting mixed reviews from students.

Gwendolyn Dungy, executive director of the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators, said she expects other colleges to follow Yale’s lead in restructuring their counseling efforts and, in many cases, eliminating separate counseling programs for minority students. “I think it is going to happen in a lot of places,” Ms. Dungy said. Many of the colleges that have talked to her about making such changes, she said, “are really having to do it because of the financial situation.”

Yale College now assigns 78 seniors to serve as residential student counselors for freshmen and has an additional 13 seniors assigned to work with students from racial and ethnic minority groups. Its planned overhaul of its counseling program, to take effect in the fall, calls for its ethnic-counselor program — established in the early 1970s — to be merged into its regular freshman counseling program, which will be expanded to employ 103 students.

A Nation of Cowards

If black people continue to accept the corrupt blame game agenda of liberal whites, black politicians and assorted hustlers, as opposed to accepting personal responsibility, the future for many black Americans will remain bleak

Attorney General Eric Holder said the United States is “a nation of cowards” when it comes to race relations. In one sense, he is absolutely right. Many whites, from university administrators and professors, schoolteachers to employers and public officials accept behavior from black people that they wouldn’t begin to accept from whites. For example, some of the nation’s most elite universities, such as Vanderbilt, Stanford University and the University of California, have yielded to black student demands for separate graduation ceremonies and separate “celebratory events.” Universities such as Stanford, Cornell, MIT, and Cal Berkeley have, or have had, segregated dorms. If white students demanded whites-only graduation ceremonies or whites-only dorms, administrators would have labeled their demands as intolerable racism. When black students demand the same thing, these administrators cowardly capitulate. Calling these university administrators cowards is the most flattering characterization of their behavior. They might actually be stupid enough to believe nonsense taught by their some of sociology and psychology professors that blacks can’t be racists because they don’t have power.

What about Holder’s statement that America is “voluntarily segregated”? I say, so what. According to the census, in 2007, 4.6 percent of married blacks were married to a white; less than 1 percent of married whites were married to a black. While blacks are 13 percent of the population, they are 80 percent of professional basketball players and 65 percent of professional football players. Mere casual observance of audiences at ice hockey games or opera performances would reveal gross voluntary segregation. What would Holder propose the U.S. Justice Department do about these and other instances of voluntary segregation?

People should be able to laugh at jokes about different races, says Clint Eastwood

'I don't want to be politically correct. We're all spending too much time and energy trying to be politically correct about everything.' Clint Eastwood

Clint Eastwood says he is sick of political correctness and believes the world would be a better place if people could laugh at inoffensive jokes about different races once more.

In an interview with Germany’s Der Spiegel magazine, the 78-year-old said people now lived in constant fear of being accused of verbally treading on people’s toes, adding: ‘ The people have lost their humour.’

Mr Eastwood, who plays a racist character in his new film, claims that political correctness has gone too far.

Clint Eastwood, who is promoting his new film Gran Torino, says political correctness has gone too far

He said; ‘We, in former times, constantly made jokes about different races.

‘You can only tell them today with one hand over your mouth otherwise you will be insulted as a racist.

‘I find that ridiculous. In those earlier days every friendly clique had a “Sam the Jew” or “José the Mexican” - but we didn’t think anything of it or have a racist thought.

‘It was normal that we made jokes based on our nationality or ethnicity. That was never a problem.

You always hurt the ones you love?

The real mystery today is what the Obama administration will do. During last year's presidential campaign, candidate Barack Obama declared his support for E-Verify. But with the election behind him and politically powerful groups like the National Council of La Raza, the ACLU, and the Chamber of Commerce (which should be ashamed of itself) decidedly hostile to anything that smacks of immigration enforcement, President Obama may be having second thoughts

Illegal aliens seeking employment in the United States were among the winners in the stimulus package passed recently by Congress - and that strikes a blow against the job prospects of American citizens and non-citizens legally authorized to work in this country. This occurs as a byproduct of the failure to reauthorize the E-Verify system, a critical tool used by more and more employers to ensure that each of their workers is authorized to work in the United States. Operated by the Department of Homeland Security in conjunction with the Social Security Administration, E-Verify is a computer application that enables employers to verify the work-authorization status of newly hired workers. Since 2006 the number of employers using the voluntary E-Verify system has risen almost tenfold to nearly 100,000.

That’s not surprising, because the system is 99.5 percent accurate, according to DHS, and it permits employers to verify work eligibility in minimal time (10 minutes or less) and at minimal cost ($419 per year for a federal contractor of 10 employees). These compliance costs compare favorably to the far greater expense and disruption of immigration raids that result in the sudden arrests of illegal workers.

St George Slays the Labour Dragon: Sandwell Council Relents on April Rally

Following on this success, Team Black Country BNP set up a table-top sale of merchandise, magazines and papers in the area to promote the party as part of its third “Spring Offensive.”

St George has slain the Labour dragon! In a dramatic U-turn, Sandwell Council has ”given permission” for the English people of Sandwell to legally march and celebrate St George’s day this April.

Last week, in the second ”Spring Offensive” report from Kingswinford, the BNP’s Black Country fundholder Gordon Howell assured the public that there “will be a march.” It has now been announced that the Sandwell Council has relented and the St George’s Day march will now be sanctioned and funded by the Council.

The pressure on Sandwell Council to reverse their decision on the march is undoubtedly due to the publicity given the ban by Black Country BNP and the growing influence of the party in the region. Last week’s determined statement by Mr Howells ensured that millions of people knew about the disgraceful, anti-English attack by Sandwell Council.

The case for a conspiracy against Europe

In 2002 Louis Michel, then Belgian minister of foreign affairs and today a member of the European Commission, told the Belgian parliament that the EU will eventually encompass North Africa and the Middle East as well as Europe

[...]

The following film features Valdimir Bukovsky explaining the similarity between the methods of the EU and the old Soviet Union (Bukovsky was punished for his dissidence with 12 years in Soviet labour camps and psychiatric units).

Further, Bukovsky told the Brussels Journal:-

“In 1992 I had unprecedented access to Politburo and Central Committee secret documents which have been classified, and still are even now, for 30 years. These documents show very clearly that the whole idea of turning the European common market into a federal state was agreed between the left-wing parties of Europe and Moscow as a joint project which Gorbachev in 1988-89 called our “common European home.”

“In January of 1989, for example, a delegation of the Trilateral Commission came to see Gorbachev. It included former Japanese Prime Minister Nakasone, former French President Giscard d’Estaing, American banker David Rockefeller and former US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger. They had a very nice conversation where they tried to explain to Gorbachev that Soviet Russia had to integrate into the financial institutions of the world, such as Gatt, the IMF and the World Bank.”

The theme of the federal state again: “In the middle of it Giscard d’Estaing suddenly takes the floor and says: “Mr President, I cannot tell you exactly when it will happen – probably within 15 years – but Europe is going to be a federal state and you have to prepare yourself for that. You have to work out with us, and the European leaders, how you would react to that, how would you allow the other East European countries to interact with it or how to become a part of it, you have to be prepared.”

How the Economy Was Lost by Paul Craig Roberts

If truth be known, the "banking problem" is the least of our worries. Our economy faces two much more serious problems. One is that offshoring and H-1b visas have stopped the growth of family incomes, except, of course, for the super rich. To keep the economy going, consumers have gone deeper into debt, maxing out their credit cards and refinancing their homes and spending the equity. Consumers are now so indebted that they cannot increase their spending by taking on more debt. Thus, whether or not the banks resume lending is beside the point

The American economy has gone away. It is not coming back until free trade myths are buried six feet under.

America’s 20th century economic success was based on two things. Free trade was not one of them. America’s economic success was based on protectionism, which was ensured by the Union victory in the Civil War, and on British indebtedness, which destroyed the British pound as world reserve currency. Following World War II, the US dollar took the role as reserve currency, a privilege that allows the US to pay its international bills in its own currency.

World War II and socialism together ensured that the US economy dominated the world at the mid 20th century. The economies of the rest of the world had been destroyed by war or were stifled by socialism.

The ascendant position of the US economy caused the US government to be relaxed about giving away American industries, such as textiles, as bribes to other countries for cooperating with America’s cold war and foreign policies. For example, Turkey’s US textile quotas were increased in exchange for over-flight rights in the Gulf War, making lost US textile jobs an off-budget war expense.

In contrast, countries such as Japan and Germany used industrial policy to plot their comebacks. By the late 1970s, Japanese auto makers had the once dominant American auto industry on the ropes. The first economic act of the “free market” Reagan administration in 1981 was to put quotas on the import of Japanese cars in order to protect Detroit and the United Auto Workers.

Justice Department: We Fail to Enforce Deportation Orders

As part of the legal process, an illegal immigrant can try to “reopen” a case if new evidence in their favor surfaces. But, according to the memo, judges repeatedly asked Justice Department litigators “why an illegal alien is still in the United States arguing his third and fourth motion to reopen in the circuit courts, years after his removal order was issued and became final.”

The U.S. government spends tens of millions of dollars each year persuading federal circuit courts to uphold orders for thousands of illegal immigrants to leave the country, but those orders have been enforced in only one-fifth of the cases, according to sources familiar with a recent Justice Department study.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement, a branch of the Department of Homeland Security, is responsible for “removing” illegal immigrants who stay in this country against the law. But the study found that more than 80 percent of the illegal immigrants whose deportation orders were upheld by a federal appeals court last year were still in the country as of five weeks ago, according to an internal Justice Department memo obtained by FOX News.

{snip}

About 8,000 cases made it to the U.S. Court of Appeals last year and the study tracked the 7,200 cases in which the Justice Department prevailed. The study found that despite winning those cases, only 1,375 illegal immigrants—19 percent—had been removed as of last month.

“If no one’s even doing anything after we win, then what’s the point?” the former Justice Department official [who left with the Bush administration] asked. “We’re just spinning our wheels.”

The study was initiated by Thomas Dupree, then a top-ranking official in the Bush Justice Department’s Office of Immigration Litigation, and conducted with research provided by ICE officials. Dupree authored the memo and distributed it four days before President Obama’s inauguration.

Two Arizona Teens Ran Prostitution Ring, Police Say

Two teenaged girls were arrested for allegedly pimping other students for prostitution, Phoenix police said

Jazmine Finley and Tatiana Tye, both 16, allegedly used contacts from local schools and their friends to lure other young girls into prostitution, MyFOXPhoenix reported.

Investigators said the suspects recruited at least five girls, ages 14 to 17.

Finley and Tye, who were allegedly involved in prostitution themselves, were responsible for recruiting, teaching and receiving money from the other girls who worked for them, police said.

At one point, the two rented an apartment where they conducted the prostitution operation, according to investigators.

The Phoenix Police Vice Unit began investigating when patrol officers gave detectives information on child prostitutes working the west Phoenix area.

The teens were charged with multiple counts of child prostitution, pandering and receiving the earnings of a prostitute, MyFOXPhoenix reported.
